With a combined commitment of over $175,000 in school supplies and innovative match offers, the Wing 2 Wing Foundation and DonorsChoose have formed a pivotal alliance. Founded by Alys and Brad D. Smith, the Wing 2 Wing Foundation is deeply committed to fostering educational equity and empowerment. “Every child deserves access to a quality education, and every teacher deserves the right tools and resources to provide that education,” said Alys and Brad D. Smith. They believe in the power of education to uplift entire communities, and their passion for transformative change is reflected in the foundation’s dedication to supporting West Virginia communities through educational initiatives.
The Wing 2 Wing Foundation and DonorsChoose share a forward-thinking mission and approach focused on educational equity and empowerment. In collaboration with DonorsChoose, these organizations prioritize support for classroom projects across West Virginia. The funding has provided a wide range of resources, from basic school supplies to the establishment of new arts and music programs and advanced technological tools for classrooms, to over 103 schools ensuring that students have access to a well-rounded education.
“The arts are a fundamental part of education, and the support from the Wing 2 Wing Foundation reaffirms that belief,” said Ashleigh Garret, an art teacher at Scott High School. “In a world that often undervalues the arts, their dedication to nurturing creativity speaks volumes and enables Scott High School to foster a love for art and cultivate the next generation of artists and innovators.”
Rebecca Skeens, a music teacher at Central City Elementary School, also shared her excitement: “It is phenomenal that my classroom was chosen by the Wing 2 Wing Foundation. This donation will help me build a SEL-focused classroom, allowing students to become better singers and help build self-confidence while promoting self-esteem.”
Jacob Terry, assistant band director and choir director at Wayne High School, echoed this sentiment, noting the personal connection he feels: “As a Marshall graduate, it is awesome to know that a fellow Marshall alumnus and current University President is committed to supporting education across WV. I am thankful and filled with gratitude knowing that someone cares for our students in this state to provide enriching opportunities for our music ensemble students.”
