In April 2026, Wing 2 Wing Foundation renewed its commitment of $60,000 to support the Fairfield U Mentor Program. This mentorship program pairs youth from the Fairfield community with medical students from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. The program offers STEM-focused learning opportunities and scholarships for graduating seniors.

How the Fairfield U Mentor Program Helps Students

The goal of the Fairfield U Mentor Program is to empower students in the Fairfield community with programming that includes:

  • Pairing middle and high school students with mentors
  • Fostering engagement with medicine and STEM
  • Supporting academic achievement
  • Preparation for standardized testing
  • Scholarships for graduating high school seniors

Ultimately, the goal is to “inspire intellect” in the students and encourage them to pursue higher education and discover their career paths. The medical students who serve as mentors also benefit from the program through community engagement and the development of leadership skills.

Supporting Wing 2 Wing Foundation’s Mission

Wing 2 Wing Foundation’s support for the Fairfield U Mentor Program is an example of how the foundation supports charitable efforts to improve the lives of communities in Appalachia through education. Supporting students in finding their career paths helps the community as a whole. By preparing the next generation with the skills and support they need to succeed, the foundation is helping build a brighter future for West Virginians.
